Uttar Pradesh Congress on Monday held a massive demonstration against inflation and unemployment under the double engine government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in the state capital.
Under the leadership of UP Congress president Brijlal Khabri, hundreds of Congress workers marched towards Raj Bhawan. However, they were stopped by the police midway and not allowed to proceed towards the Raj Bhawan.
There broke out a major clash between the Congress workers and the police near Congress office at Mall Avenue and Raj Bhawan. Several Congress workers suffered minor injuries in the scuffle.
Police took several Congress leaders and workers raising slogans against the BJP government in custody and put them in a temporary jail at Eco Garden.
The UP Congress Committee had announced to lay siege to the Raj Bhavan on Monday against the twin issue of inflation and unemployment. Party leaders from Lucknow and adjoining districts participated in the demonstration. Due to the demonstration, there was a massive traffic jam for hours near Vidhan Bhavan and Raj Bhavan.
State Congress president and former MP Brijlal Khabri told reporters here that injustice and atrocities has increased in the state and the present government has turned a deaf ear to the plights of the people as it is more concerned about protecting its industrialist friends than punishing the guilty.
“The government is non-existent in UP. The Vice Chancellors of different universities are indulged in corruption and they are being given protection by their political masters, ” Khabri said.
Khabari said that even the condition of farmers is very pathetic. They are not getting the remunerative price for their crop, but the BJP government is doing nothing to help them out. The Modi government at the center is working towards benefiting some of its capitalist friends, while the poor are suffering.
“The people of the country understand everything and are ready to give a befitting reply to the Bharatiya Janata Party in the coming Lok Sabha elections,” he said.
Khabri said that the Congress has always struggled on issues of public interest and will continue to do so in the future. A conspiracy is being made to weaken the country’s democracy, but the Congress party will not allow this to happen.
