A video shared on social media made the Uttarakhand police to act against one of their personnel who was suspended while a case was registered against another for allegedly thrashing a youth in district Udham Singh Nagar.
The video shows two persons severely beating a man in Ruderpur market in broad daylight. One person, later identified as Constable Harish, started the clash by slapping the victim over petty reasons, as reported.

The over one-minute video of the clash became viral on social media. It shows the other accused, Manoj, chasing the victim and severely beating and kicking him in the market. The incident took place at the transit camp Thana area of Ruderpur on Tuesday. Taking action against the policeman for joining the fight rather than stopping it, Uttarakhand Police issued suspension order to the cop on Thursday. The video acted as digital evidence to prove the involvement of the policeman in the shocking incident.
The rather violent video shows a livid Manoj beating the victim mercilessly with punches and then slamming him down on the ground and kicking him continuously, tearing his shirt in the process, and even trying to strangulate him.
After a few moments, the onlookers came to the rescue of the youth and helped him run away from the spot.
Informing the suspension order through a press release, Uttarakhand Police’s press cell states, “A video about a fight in Udham Singh Nagar became viral on social media. One accused was termed as policeman. The Udham Singh Nagar police conducted an investigation and identified one person involved in the fight as Manoj, who is not a policeman. Constable Harish was with Manoj, but he was not involved in the fight. On the complaint of victim Satyendra Chandol, police cases against both the accused have been registered. Constable Harish has been suspended.”
The police authorities could not establish the identity of the main culprit since both of them were donning identical dresses. They say that their investigation is underway.
