In light of the escalating unrest in neighboring Bangladesh, the Tripura police have implemented stringent measures to maintain law and order within the state, particularly in the West Tripura district and the capital city of Agartala.

These measures include restrictions on public gatherings, rallies, and a crackdown on inflammatory content shared via social media platforms.

The decision comes as authorities aim to prevent any spillover of instability from Bangladesh into the Indian border state.

Superintendent of Police (SP) West Tripura, Kiran Kumar, stated that the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and Border Security Force (BSF) have intensified joint patrols along the India-Bangladesh border.

The increased surveillance is designed to thwart any potential cross-border intrusions and ensure that the situation remains peaceful in Tripura.

“Given the unstable situation in Bangladesh, we are taking all necessary precautions to maintain peace and order in our region,” Kumar told local media.

As part of these efforts, the Tripura police have also focused on curbing the spread of provocative content on social media, which could incite unrest.

Two individuals have already been arrested for disseminating inflammatory audio messages, and authorities are actively identifying others involved in similar activities.

Kumar stressed the importance of maintaining social harmony and warned that anyone found spreading or forwarding such content could face legal action.

WhatsApp group administrators, in particular, have been urged to exercise caution in monitoring the content shared within their groups.

In a move to further prevent any escalation of tensions, the police recently denied permission for a rally organized by a Hindu group protesting against attacks on minorities in Bangladesh.

The denial is part of a broader strategy to avoid any actions that could exacerbate communal tensions or lead to unrest in the region.
