Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, MK Stalin, has announced a hike in the monthly financial aid to the various categories of persons with disabilities, from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 each, in a move that would cost the State exchequer an additional cost of Rs 263.58 crore.
Addressing a meeting, organized to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Stalin said this hike in the aid, would benefit 4,39,315 persons, who were receiving such assistance from the state revenue department.
The state government, he said, had appointed an expert panel to identify the suitable jobs for them in both the public and private sectors.
The panel would suggest the amicable ways and the technology, to help the differently-abled citizens overcome dependence on others.
He said they could also work from home and that they were being trained in computer software and use of laptops to help them get jobs.
The Chief Minister gave away various awards to persons with disabilities in the event.
Stalin said his government wanted persons with disabilities to avoid hardship adding that the things should be done even if the benefit goes to only one person.
