The Telangana government has filed an appeal in the Telangana High Court against the ruling of the single judge transferring the MLA poaching case to the CBI from the SIT appointed by the state government.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan will take up the matter. The single judge had given the ruling on the writ petitions filed by the three accused in the court on 26 December last year while dismissing the one filed by BJP seeking the transfer of the case to the CBI since they were a third party in the case.

The directive, which also quashed the order appointing the SIT and the investigations it conducted so far had caused a massive loss of face for the state government. The SIT had made BJP’s national general secretary (organisation) BL Santosh the fourth accused in the case.

Meanwhile, the high court also permitted the Telangana Congress to hold a protest at Dharna Chowk with village sarpanches after the police denied permission. The sarpanches are protesting against the state government for not releasing central funds meant for gram panchayats.
