Punjab: Five veterinary officers dismissed
In a bold move to address negligence and absenteeism, Punjab Animal Husbandry Department on Thursday terminated the services of five veterinary officers with immediate effect.
The cause of the blast, which damaged the buildings in radius up to 200 metres, is yet to be ascertained, police said.
As the death toll at the firecracker factory blast in Batala, Punjab rose to 23 people, actor and MP from the Gurdaspur constituency Sunny Deol decided to visit the site.
Sunny Deol announced the news on his official Twitter handle. He wrote, ” I am on my way to visit the #BatalaBlast site and meet bereaved families.”
On Wednesday evening, dozens were trapped, injured and some died after the unauthorized firecracker factory in the residential area of Batala was completely destroyed by fire.

The dead included the firecracker manufacturing unit’s owner and six of his family members.
A number of buildings near the complex including a car workshop were badly damaged in the explosion.

Earlier, Sunny Deol had appointed Gurpreet Singh Palheri of Palheri village in Mohali district as his representative to take care of the routine work in his absence.
Deol has also been promoting his son, Karan Deol’s debut film Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas, which he has also directed.
