Senior JD(U) leader Upendra Kushwaha is undergoing routine medical check up at the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in New Delhi amid speculations of his secret preparedness to join the BJP.
A viral photograph in social media, showing him visited by State BJP spokesman Ranjan Patel and former BJP MLA Sanjay Singh Tiger in the hospital, has fuelled no less speculations in the State’s politics.
According to a section of political insiders, Kushwaha could join BJP or float an independent party to strengthen NDA in the State ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in 2024.
The JD-U parliamentary board chairman, a couple of days back, desperately dropped hint of his desire to be inducted as the Deputy Chief Minister in the Mahagathbandhan Government. He said that he was neither a “Sanyasi” nor sitting in a “Matth”.
But, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made it plain and simple that there was no space for a second Deputy Chief Minister, much to the utter disappointment of Kushwaha.
Talking to reporters during the recent Samadhaan Yatra in Gaya, the Chief Minister, in a lighter vein, said” Kushawaha ji jaate hein doosre party mein fir lautkar hamaare pass aa jaate hein”.
Kumar said, “as far as I know he has gone to New Delhi for his medical treatment. Let him come to Bihar. I will talk to him. Kushwaha was in my favour of me”. Let me talk to him.”
According to a political observer, BJP might use Kushwaha to destabilize the Mahagathbandhan Government since his RLSP has already merged with JDU.
Kushwaha is now in a fix and his future is uncertain after CM Nitish Kumar rehabilitated him in the tough time. But he has no taker in Bihar politics, said a senior JD leader on the condition of anonymity.
