In an effort to put pressure on the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh on the lines of Bihar, principal opposition Samajwadi Party on Saturday announced to launch a campaign at the block level from February 24 to press for caste census in the state.
SP state unit president of Samajwadi Backward Class Cell Rajpal Kashyap said here that on the instruction of the party president Akhilesh Yadav, the party will make people aware of the demand of caste-wise census of all castes, including other backward classes, by holding seminars at the block level in all 75 districts.
The first phase of the seminar will start from February 24 and will continue till March 5 at the block level in each district. Seminars will be held in Varanasi on February 24 and 25, Sonbhadra on February 26 and 27, Mirzapur on February 28 and March 1, Bhadohi on March 2 and 3. This program will conclude on March 4 and 5 in Prayagraj.
The Samajwadi Party has been strongly raising the demand for conducting caste census. The party believes that by conducting caste-wise census, Constitutional rights of different castes will be protected and everyone will get rights and respect according to their population.
With the data of every caste, the government will be able to decide other policies apart from development works, claimed SP’s chief spokesperson Rajendra Chowdhary here. The Bihar government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has already started the caste census in the state.
