Senior Samajwadi Party leader and MLC Swami Prasad Maurya on Thursday demanded Bharat Ratna for former Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav. The Central government on Wednesday announced Padma Vibhushan posthumously for Yadav, also former Defence Minister.
Maurya, who recently demanded a ban on Ramcharitmanas, tweeted that by awarding Padma Vibhushan posthumously to Netaji Mulayam Singh Yadav, the Central government has ridiculed his personality, work and contribution towards the nation.

“If Netaji had to be respected, then he should have been honoured with Bharat Ratna,” he said, while urging his party colleagues to demand that the founder of the Samajwadi Party should be honoured with the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian award.
