Sonia Gandhi unveils bronze statue of Karunanidhi at DMK headquarters

United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi unveiled a statue of late Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M Karunanidhi at the DMK headquarters in Chennai on Sunday evening in a special event that brought many opposition parties together.

United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi unveiled a statue of late Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M Karunanidhi at the DMK headquarters in Chennai on Sunday evening in a special event that brought many anti-BJP party leaders together.

Gandhi was accompanied by her son and Congress president Rahul Gandhi at the event. Also in attendance were Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, actor Rajinikanth and a galaxy of politicians, film personalities and industrialists.

MK Stalin, the DMK president and son of Karunanidhi, received the dignitaries at the unveiling.

The bronze statue of the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Anna Arivalayam was erected next to the statue of CN Annadurai, the founder of DMK.

Following the unveiling, Sonia Gandhi and others also paid respects to Karunanidhi at his memorial at Marina Beach.

Later in the evening Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Stalin, Chief Ministers Naidu, Vijayan, Narayanasamy and others will be addressing a public rally.
