SOG unit in Poonch to strengthen anti-terrorist grid

In a bid to strengthen anti-militancy grid in the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch where Army convoys were recently targeted by Pakistani terrorists, Additional DGP (Jammu Zone) Anand Jain on Friday inaugurated the newly established operational unit of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the J&K Police at Jarran Wali Gali near the Line of Control (LOC) in Poonch district.

The two border districts have witnessed a number of fatal terror attacks in the recent past.

The ADGP was accompanied by Dr Haseeb Mughal, DIG, Rajouri-Poonch Range, Vinay Kumar, SSP, Poonch besides other Police, Army and CRPF officers.

The ADGP also Interacted with the jawans and checked the operational preparedness of the SOG unit. He also stressed upon the various troops to have a good police-public relations and asked them to generate generic information regarding the movement of the terrorists.

Meanwhile, security forces have been put on high alert in J&K ahead of the inauguration of the Ram Mandir on 22 January and the Republic Day. Drones of the security forces were keeping an eye on the situation and vehicles were being checked.

The Army, J&K Police, para-military forces and intelligence agencies have held security review meetings at the Union Territory and formation levels.

A Joint security review meeting co-chaired by GOC of Army’s 16 Corps and DGP of J&K Police was held earlier this week.
The top brass discussed joint combat readiness, counter terrorism grid and formulated modalities of heightened alert with the help of all resources including technological and aviation assets.

ADGP Jain also reviewed the security scenario in a meeting with Army, CRPF, BSF and intelligence officers.

DIG (Jammu) Shakti Pathak on Friday held a strategic meeting with police officers to address the comprehensive security measures in place for the upcoming major events.

The session focused on proactive planning and collaboration to ensure the safety and well-being of the community during these significant gatherings, said a police spokesman.

He directed the sub-division police officers and SHOs to maintain high security in Jammu district and to remain extra vigilant with regard to people coming and outing in the city, hotel checking, crowd control strategies, traffic management plans, and enhanced security protocols.

The senior officers emphasized a multi-agency approach, fostering coordination among various departments to create a unified front against potential challenges.
