The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has sent a fresh summons to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, for the sixth time, sources said on Wednesday.

The AAP chief, who skipped five previous summons issued by the agency, has been asked to appear before the federal agency on February 19 for questioning in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case.

Last week, a Delhi court, acting on an ED complaint, had asked the chief minister to appear before it on February 17. The ED had gone to court with the complaint that Kejriwal was not complying with the summons issued to him for the fifth time.

Earlier, Kejriwal was summoned by the agency on February 2, January 18, January 3, and the previous year’s December 21 and November 2.

So far, the AAP chief and his party have taken a stand that the ED notices are untenable as they are politically motivated. The AAP even called the summons unlawful as they were issued by the probe agency without replying to the questions raised by the recipient.

“Let the ED send summons as per the law, we will respond appropriately,” the party had said.

While skipping the fourth summons sent by the federal agency, the AAP convenor termed the notice “illegal”. He said he was ready to cooperate with the ED, but it intended to arrest him so that he could not campaign for the upcoming elections.

The ED case is based on an FIR by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) alleging multiple irregularities in the Delhi government’s excise policy, which was taken back after an uproar.
