Well-placed sources, including senior BJP leaders in Uttarakhand, informed that the six rebel MLAs suddenly reached Rishikesh from Panchkula, Chandigarh with two Opposition legislators. Uttarakhand BJP leaders informed that the Himachal Congress MLAs entered Uttarakhand from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh.

They travelled directly from Panchkula to Saharanpur avoiding entry into Himachal Pradesh for being identified by the ruling dispensation. These MLAs accompanied by three independent legislators, who supported the Sukhvinder Singh Sukkhu Government, cross-voted in the recently-concluded Rajya Sabha elections leading to the defeat of Congress party’s official candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi.

They had left Shimla immediately after Rajya Sabha polls but went back for a couple of before returning to Panchkula again, said the BJP leaders in Uttarakhand.

“It’s learnt that 11 Himachal Pradesh MLAs are staying at a resort at Kaudiala in Rishikesh. The legislators’ group staying at the resort includes six Congress MLAs, three independents and two BJP MLAs. They came to Uttarakhand through different routes on their own. We hope four more will join them soon,” informed a senior BJP leader and state organisation office bearer in Dehradun.

However, when contacted, party spokesperson and state media in-charge Manvir Chauhan said, “We don’t have much idea as to Himachal Congress MLAs coming to Uttarakhand but if happened it’s their internal matter. This was bound to happen as Himachal government ill treated its own MLAs. Rebellion was expected after cross-voting in the Rajya Sabha elections, their expulsion and unruly conduct of the ruling party hooligans with their families.”
