Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan took a jibe at the Congress following reports that posters claiming a ‘victory’ of the grand old party had been put up in Bhopal.

Chouhan, who expressed confidence in the victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the recently concluded assembly elections in the state, reiterated that his party will remain in power.

Mocking the Congress, Chouhan said that the posters are an attempt by the Congress to create hype to keep volunteers in check.

“It is laughable that Congress is putting up posters and making a cabinet, these are claims and will remain so. Truth is they need to create hype to keep volunteers in check,” he told reporters.

“Tomorrow we will form the government with a big mandate,” Chouhan said.

According to reports, the posters have been put up by enthusiastic Congress supporters buoyed by some exit polls that predicted a Congress victory in the state. Reports say that the party has denied “official involvement” in putting up the posters.

The posters read, “Thank you to people of Madhya Pradesh and party workers. Greetings to Congress government under the leadership of Kamal Nath.”

Nath is the MP from Chhindwara and is the president of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee.

The posters also depict former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, president Rahul Gandhi and MP Jyotiraditya Scindia.

“BJP is going to form the govt. Congress is distressed. Like they first raised suspicion on EVMs and doubted EC, they’ll try to create obstacles at the time of counting too,” Chouhan, who has been ruling MP for 13 years, said on Sunday.

Commenting on a meeting he had at the party office in the state on Saturday, Chouhan said that state BJP chief Rakesh Singh has told district presidents and incharges to “stay calm but alert”.

Election for the 230-member assembly in MP was held on 28 November.

An average of the exit polls indicate a tight battle between the BJP and the Congress, with neither party getting a clear majority.

Counting of votes in all five states that recently went to polls will be held on Tuesday, 11 December.
