Security forces on Sunday killed a terrorist belonging to the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit in Pulwama’s Khrew. With this the total number of terrorists killed today touched seven.
Six terrorists from Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Taiba were killed in a major operation in Shopian in the morning.
The terrorist, code name Waseem, was killed following credible input about the presence of terrorists in Khrew. He is reportedly the second Pakistani terrorist killed today. Another Pakistani, codenamed Kafeel, was among the 6 terrorists killed in the morning.
Police said that a swift search operation was launched jointly by personnel of J-K police and other security forces at Bathien area in Khrew.
As the searches were going on, the security forces were fired upon by the terrorist. That led to a brief exchange of gunfire in which the terrorist was shot dead.
Security forces recovered arms and ammunition such as AK-47 rifle and magazines from the slain terrorist.
Top commanders of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were on Sunday morning killed in an encounter with security forces at Batagund in Shopian district of South Kashmir.
One of the slain terrorist, Mohammad Abbas Bhat, was involved in the killing of a young Kashmiri Army officer Lieutenant Omar Fayaz, who was abducted from his house and brutally killed by terrorists, said police.

A soldier of the Army was also killed and another injured during the encounter. A youth was killed reportedly in crossfire when a mob indulged in stone-pelting at the security forces that were engaged in the encounter.
The martyred soldier was a local Kashmiri identified as Nazir Ahmad of 162 Battalion of Territorial Army. He belonged to Kulgam in South Kashmir. The injured soldier has been identified as Sunil of 34 RR.
The killings of seven terrorists comes as a major success in two days. Security forces had on 23 November also killed 6 terrorists of whom 3 were top commanders of HM and LeT.
