Hours of incessant rainfall in the city and adjoining districts led to water-logging in several parts of the city on Wednesday morning.

The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Mumbai and Thane today. Both the cities will receive “heavy to very heavy rains” at isolated places, according to an IMD alert.

Earlier on Tuesday, the city received intermittent rains causing traffic snarls affecting Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Police have urged the people to take precautions in the wake of warning issued by the weather department.

“Dear Mumbaikars, The IMD authorities have indicated high rainfall weather for Mumbai and other adjoining districts for the next 2 days. Please take adequate precautions and ensure safety. #Dial100 in case of an emergency. Take care Mumbai, (sic)” Mumbai Police posted on Twitter.

Deputy Director-General of Meteorology at India Meteorological Department, KS Hosalikar has posted on Twitter on the Mumbai rains update for the last 24 hours.

Apart from disrupted road and rail traffic, several flights have been delayed at the airports in the city.

Earlier in July, torrential rains had left at least 40 dead in Maharashtra with over 28 deaths being reported from Mumbai alone. The city had recorded the highest July rainfall in 10 years and the second-highest in 44 years.
