The New Delhi International Arbitration Center Amendment Bill-2022 that seeks to change the name of the New Delhi International Arbitration Center to India International Arbitration Centre has been passed by the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

During the discussion on the bill in Parliament, the government assured that no compromise would be made with the authority, independence and credibility of the International Arbitration Center of India. After this, the bill was passed by voice vote.

Responding to the discussion on the bill in the Rajya Sabha, Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju said in his speech that the government is in complete agreement that arbitration centres should be completely independent.

He said if there is the influence of the government in this centre, it will certainly not become attractive. Why would people come there when they know that the government has serious influence (there)? We have taken great care of this.

The Law Minister said, “I want to assure the House that no compromise will be made with the authority, independence and credibility of the International Arbitration Center of India.

Wednesday was the seventh day of the ongoing winter session of Parliament. In such a situation, there was uproar by Opposition parties in both Houses on the issue of confrontation with China in Tawang.
