Restaurant Association to approach CCI against 10-minute food delivery apps: Report

The National Restaurant Association of India

The National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) is likely to approach the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to address concerns regarding Zomato and Swiggy’s recent launch of standalone apps for 10-minute food delivery, media reports said.

The NRAI alleges that this represents the operation of private labels by the companies, raising issues for restaurant partners.

Zomato’s Blinkit and Swiggy recently introduced standalone apps, Bistro and Snacc, respectively.

The NRAI is already pursuing a case with the antitrust regulator against both companies, accusing them of engaging in anti-competitive practices.

Swiggy’s restaurant-based quick food delivery, run under its Bolt model, reportedly contributes over 5% of its total food delivery orders.

In a separate development, Swiggy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Robin Hood Army, an NGO focused on fighting hunger through surplus food distribution, aiming to distribute 50 million meals by 2030 through the initiative Swiggy Serves.

Swiggy has kickstarted the partnership with a few restaurant partners such as Dana Choga, Biryani by Kilo, Dosa Anna, Charcoal Eats, Urban Tandoor, and Foodies Cart, among others.

Zomato had also introduced a feature on the application to minimise food wastage in November 2024. The feature, named Food Rescue, shows cancelled orders on the app of nearby users who can purchase them at a discounted price.
