Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that the state government was committed to prevent road accidents.

Financial approvals are being given for public awareness campaigns and to procure ultramodern equipment for police and concerned departments.

Ashok Gehlot pointed out that every year thousands of people die in road accidents in the country. The families of those who die in the road accidents have to suffer a lot in the aftermath of their passing away as the children are orphaned. In such a situation, considering that every life precious, it is the top most priority of the state government to prevent road accidents, he claimed.

Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) V K Singh said that these interceptors will ensure contactless and cashless enforcement as these are equipped with a high-definition camera along with a speed laser gun to measure the speed of vehicles from a distance of 1km, according to ADG-P.

The interceptors can identify the number plate from a distance of 250 metres during the daytime and a distance of 100 metres at night. Besides, these are capable of issuing an e-challan from the ITMS facility of NIC by taking a photo-video with artificial intelligence.

The interceptors have laser track speed cameras, along with 360-degree camera recorders, breath analysers to check alcohol content in the blood, tint meters, LED signage, LED light bars, high-capacity sirens and PA systems. First aid and medical kits are also available in these vehicles.

While the Traffic Commissionerate Jaipur has been given four interceptors, Udaipur, Ajmer, Jaipur Rural, Sikar and Bhilwara have got two each, Nagaur, Barmer, Bharatpur, Bikaner, Pali, Alwar, Jhunjhjunu, Jodhpur Rural, Jhalawar, Sirohi and Kota City one each.

It is may be mentioned here that the main reasons for road accidents are high speed and drunk driving. Keeping these factors in mind, the state government has provided the interceptors to the police.
