Three lakh students cleared the Indian Railways Non Technical Popular Category (NTPC) exam, but only one lakh youths will be hired by the Railways. More than one crore candidates had applied for the railway exam.
The names of the eligible applicants are released by various Railway Recruitment Boards.

According to a senior member of the Railway Board, the physical and medical fitness test of successful candidates will start in January next year. After getting the employment letter, in June 2023, more than one lakh people will start working in the railways.
According to the official, one crore 10 lakh applications were submitted under Non-Technical Popular Category (NTPC) for one lakh posts of Coolie, Khalasi, Gang Magnon, Lineman, Signalman, etc., whose Computer Based Test (CBT) was done. Held at 400 centers in 99 shifts, 15 languages were used for the exam.
Convenience of the candidates was kept in mind while selecting the exam centers and 60 per cent candidates were given centers within 200 km of their address, and 95 per cent candidates were given centers within 400 km. 3,62,924 appointments have been made by the Railways since 2014. Apart from this, one lakh posts are being filled.
