A portal unveiled by the Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal on Monday promises to provide real time information on all trains. Rail Drishti Dashboard, the website that has been created by Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) provides running status of all trains along with a host of other information which is expected to bring more transparency.
Apart from the status of their rail ticket, passengers can also get info on whether the train is delayed or not. Details of all facilities that are available at a particular railway station can be checked on Rail Drishti Dashboard. The name and contact number of the housekeeping staff on the train will also be displayed. Passengers can also track online redressal of their complaints.

Live videos of the base kitchens where food for the passengers is cooked can also be seen by the passengers. The minister said that every food packet available at Railways will have a bar coding from which the date of packing can be known.
“We are accountable to the needs and aspirations of the public. This platform brings us closer to the dream of digital railways which encourages transparency by bringing all the information in the public domain,” Goyal said.
Welfare of the casual workers in Railways has also been kept in mind. The website has a link where the amount of wages that has been distributed to casual workers can be seen. “The number of casual workers is at an all time high as the capital expenditure for Railways has touched Rs 1.58 lakh crore,” said Goyal.
Goyal said that Rail Drishti will make Railways a transparent body. Those who have applied for railway tenders can also check their status. “Even the payments made to the vendors can be checked on the website,” he said.
