After the successful culmination of the 136 days long Bharat Jodo Yatra, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday visited Kashmir’s two revered shrines – Kheer Bhawani and Hazratbal and prayed for peace and prosperity in the country.
Their visit to the shrines a day after the conclusion of BJY was kept secret due to security reasons and their pictures in the revered temple and shrine were posted on the social media accounts of the Congress.
The Gandhi siblings first drove from their hotel in Srinagar to the shrine of Ragnya Devi, popularly known as Mata Kheer Bhawani Temple, in the Tullamulla area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
Accompanied by some Congress leaders, they paid obeisance at the shrine nestled among mighty chinars, 28 kilometres from Srinagar.
Kheer Bhawani is the principal deity of Kashmiri Pandits who believe that the colour of the sacred spring water, which flows below the temple, predicts the situation in Kashmir. The black or dark colour of the water is believed to be an indication of inauspicious times for Kashmir.
