Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi will be visiting Surat in Gujarat on Wednesday, the first anniversary of the government’s demonetisation decision, which the party is observing as “Black Day”.

In what will be his second visit this month, Gandhi will hold informal meetings with industry representatives and workers during the day, according to the party.

The party said Gandhi will have interaction with traders at Sanjeev Kumar Auditorium, Adajan Gam in Surat and later be part of candlelight vigil near Vivekanand Statue in Chowk Bazar, Surat.

His visit comes after senior party leader and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was in Ahmedabad on Tuesday where he addressed a large crowd of businesspersons against demonetisation and GST.

The Congress party will observe November 8 as “Black Day” with country-wide protests against demonetisation with the theme “Bhugat Raha hai desh” (the country is suffering).

After Surat, Gandhi is likely to visit North Gujarat from November 9 to 11.

He had visited the poll-bound state twice in October.
