Goa Assembly had a surprise visitor on Tuesday, the first day of its three-day budget session. Congress President Rahul Gandhi arrived at the Assembly quarters just after noon and went to the opposition lobby where he met the Congress legislators.
He has been in Goa since Saturday on a private visit along with his mother and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

The visit to the Goa Assembly comes a day after Gandhi attacked state Chief Minister and former Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar over the Rafale deal and the audio tapes that the Congress claims contain the recording of the telephonic conversation between Goa Health Minister Vishwajit P Rane and an unidentified person wherein the former is telling the latter that Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has Rafale files in his bedroom and that has given him an edge over PM Modi.

Gandhi had on Monday tweeted, “30 days since the Goa Audio Tapes on RAFALE were released. No FIR or enquiry ordered. No action against the Minister either! It’s obvious that the tapes are authentic & that Goa CM, Parrikar, is in possession of explosive RAFALE secrets, that give him power over the PM.”
The Congress president even tried to play the recording in the Lok Sabha on January 2 but was not granted the permission by Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.
Manohar Parrikar was the defence minister when the deal for 36 Rafale jets was signed between India and France.
Congress and Gandhi have been incessantly demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the matter.
Meanwhile, Goa Congress Legislature Party Chief Chandrakant Kavlekar said, “Rahul ji is on a private trip to Goa. He visited the CM to check on his health. I also requested him to meet our Congress MLAs. He obliged and met all of them.”
