According to reports, the activists, identified as Krupesh and Sarathlal, were attacked by three assailants who came in an SUV and hacked them to death.
Krupesh died on the spot. Sarathlal passed away en route to a medical facility in Mangaluru, Karnataka.
The Congress blamed the CPI(M), which is in power in the state, for the attack.
KPCC president Mullapally Ramachandran demanded Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to tell “his people to give up weapons”.
“Peace will prevail only after the CM asks his people to keep weapons down. This was a planned murder and CPI(M) is responsible for it,” Ramachandran reportedly said.
Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala, too, held the CPI(M) responsible for the double murders and demanded that the culprits are arrested soon.
“The youth congress activists were attacked without any provocation. They were not involved in any kind of criminal activities. No cases were there against them. The government should identify the culprits and arrest them as soon as possible,” Chennithala told reporters.
A dawn-to-dusk strike has been called by the United Democratic Front (UDF) opposition across Kerala. UDF leaders took out a protest march in Kasargode protesting the murders and demanding justice.
The CPI(M) has denied any involvement in the attack.
