The Haryana Police have beefed up security measures in the run-up to the Republic-Day celebrations across the state.

Director General of Police (DGP) Haryana PK Agrawal said here on Tuesday that all the commissioners of police and district superintendents of police have been directed to ensure elaborate security cover for 26 January at all important venues for celebration and flag-hoisting ceremonies.

All roads leading to celebration venues are being monitored with the strengthening of nakas and surprise checks. Additional forces have been deployed to deal with any untoward incident, he said

“The police officers have also been directed to make smooth traffic arrangements during the Republic-Day celebrations, particularly along the routes leading to the venues of the functions,” the DGP added.

Agrawal said police personnel are keeping a close vigil on sensitive locations to maintain law and order ahead of the Republic Day. At the same time, security forces are also keeping a close watch on unclaimed vehicles, articles as well as suspicious persons.

Apart from patrolling at all vital points, special drive to check trains and public transport is also being carried out across the state.

The DGP said a close vigil is being kept at strategic locations like busy markets, bus stands and railway stations. Hotels, guesthouses, parking lots and restaurants are also being checked. In addition to police patrolling, checking of vehicles, especially during night time has also been beefed up to make the general public feel safer.
