Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Saturday arrested a station house officer (SHO) Rupinderpal Singh, posted at Kulgarhi Police Station in Ferozepur, in a case of bribery.
While giving this information, the spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said the complainant Gagandeep Singh, a resident of village Kasu Beg in Ferozepur, had filed a complaint against the police officer on the chief minister’s anti-corruption helpline.
He said that during the investigation of this complaint and the evidence, it was found that a case was filed against Major Singh and his son, a resident of the said village. This case was being investigated by the said accused SHO in this case.
He demanded Rs 80,000 in exchange for helping and not registering a police case in the matter. The police officer has already taken Rs 70,000 as bribe from the complainant.
“During the investigation, after the allegations were found to be true, a case has been registered against the said policeman under the Prevention of Corruption Act at Ferozepur police station of the Vigilance Bureau and further proceedings have been initiated,” the spokesperson said.
Accused Alka Sharma has been caught red-handed while she was accepting the bribe of Rs 30,000 and has been sent to jail on a 14-day judicial remand by the local court.
Terming the case against him "totally political", the Congress leader alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party Government in the state was treating worse than even the Mughals.
