The Punjab Police has solved the blind murder of Arjuna awardee Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dalbir Singh Deol in just 48 hours. An auto rickshaw driver has been arrested for his murder after a trivial fight.

According to the police, the DSP was killed by the auto rickshaw driver identified as Vijay Kumar after an argument over where he wanted to be dropped.

The incident took place on December 31 when Dalbir Singh Deol, a decorated Punjab Police officer took an auto from Jalandhar bus station to go to his village Khojewal, some 15 km away from the spot.

During the journey, the two got into an argument over the location where Deol wanted the the auto rickshaw driver to drop him.

During the argument, the driver somehow managed to snatch his service revolver and shot him on the head.

His body was discovered from near a canal by another policeman who was returning home after the duty. The policeman then informed other cops, who started investing the incident that initially appeared a case of blind murder.

During the investigation, the cops saw Deol boarding the auto rickshaw and subsequently tracked it’s driver Vijay Kumar, a resident of Jalandhar.

The accused, according to the police, is a drug addict and had been booked in a case of assault six years ago.

“The investigation eventually led to Kumar’s arrest. He had been booked around six years ago too, in a case of assault, but since the complainant did not want to pursue it further, it was quashed,” Jalandhar Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma said.

During the investigation, he admitted killing the DSP, also a former athelete, with his Glock 9 mm service revolver.
