President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended Dussehra Celebrations at 15 August Park at Lal Qila Maidan in New Delhi on Friday.
Both the President, who was accompanied by the First Lady, and the PM watched the Ramleela organised by the Lav-Kush Ramleela committee.
The President lit the ceremonial lamp before the start of the Ramleela. After the end of the show, the PM fired an arrow to symbolically set on fire the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarn and Meghnad.
The leaders then watched the giant effigies of the demon king, his brother and his son go up in flames signifying the triumph of good over evil.
At a different event, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh joined devotees at the Dussehra festivities at Dharmik Ramlila Committee.
The leaders then witnessed Dussehra celebrations at Nav Shri Dharmik Ramlila Committee. Congress president Rahul Gandhi, too, was present at the event.
