In connection with the local urban body elections in Uttar Pradesh, the Backward Classes Commission constituted by the state government held its first meeting on Saturday and discussed policies and procedures regarding the statewide survey.
Interacting with the media representatives after the meeting, Commission Chairman Justice (Retd) Ram Avtar Singh said that the guidelines of the Hon’ble Supreme Court and the Hon’ble High Court will be followed in letter and spirit regarding the reservation for OBCs in civic body elections. The commission will submit its first report in the next three months. After this, the remaining necessary procedures will be completed in a period of 2-3 months, he added.
He said that the state government has constituted the commission for a period of six months and that the work will be completed within the stipulated period. Justice (retd) Ram Avtar Singh said that the commission team will visit all 75 districts to get accurate data in the survey, taking cooperation from the local district administration.
According to him, suggestions will also be invited from public representatives to ensure that the results of the survey are flawless. The team will also interact with the local public representatives in the districts. Along with this, phone numbers can also be issued on behalf of the Member Secretary of the Commission as per the requirement, he pointed out.
The chairman further informed that all the members were present in Saturday’s meeting while one of the members attended through virtual medium. In the first meeting, the commission also considered the further process and method of the survey.
The commission will also study related cases of states like Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. He said that the commission will hold meeting everyday discussing all the relevant points.
