Under relentless heat wave conditions with soaring temperatures ranging above 45 degrees celsius in the sandy desert of Rajasthan since early May, there is very good news on Sunday that pre-Monsoon rains hit nine districts in part of the state on Saturday night giving respite to people and hope to farmers for standing Kharif crop.
Udaipur, Kota, Ajmer, and Jodhpur divisions’ many cities received moderate to heavy rains since last night. Garhi in Banswara lashed with a maximum of 115 mm rainfall, about 5 inches, followed by 100 mm in Salumber of Udaipur district, a state met report said here on Sunday.
Tents and other shades were blown away at the high speed of a squall at a Mango festival in Kushalbag at Banswara last night. Electric poles and trees were uprooted causing power disruption till this morning. Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, and Udaipur also experienced a high-speed dust storm followed by a squall.
The pre-Monsoon rains will move further causing normal to heavy rainfall in fifteen districts in the coming days. The monsoon arrival is expected any day after June 18, the weather office predicts.
Intense heat wave conditions still persisted in the Jaipur division with 43 degrees C temperature in the last 24 hours.
