69 contestants in the fray for Rajasthan bye-elections
A total of 15 contestants have withdrawn their nominations across seven poll-bound assembly segments in Rajasthan, leaving 69 candidates in the fray for the November 13 by-elections.
Polling in Srikaranpur assembly constituency will be held from 7 am to 6 pm on Friday, January 5.
The election to the constituency was to postponed in view of
Congress candidate Rupinder Koonar and BJP’s Surendra Pal Singh TT are among 12 contestants are in the fray where over2.5 lakh electorate will cast their votes.

Rupinder, son of late Gurmeet Singh Koonar (former Congress MLA) is riding on a sympathy wave while BJP’S Surendra has already been made MoS in the Bhajan Lal Government and the party has projected him a pillar of the new government to satisfy the public expectations, if elected.
Gurmeet Singh Koonar, a contestant from Karanpur seat, was passed away after a short illness at AIIMS in Delhi on November 15 compelling the Election Commission to adjourn and reschedule polling.
Elections in 199 assembly seats were held on November 25 and results were announced on December 3.
Counting of votes will be held on January 8.
It is worth mentioning here that Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee demanded that the Election Commission should disqualify a BJP candidate, Surendera Pal Singh TT, from the Srikarapur assembly elections of January 5 for flouting the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) especially clause 32 after he was sworn in as MoS (Independent Charge) in the Rajasthan Government.
