Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Friday interact with the officials in-charge of country’s 100 most backward regions to deliberate upon ways to ensure “rapid transformation” in their respective districts.
The ‘Transformation of Aspirational Districts’ is being organised to realise Modi’s vision of a new India by 2022, officials said.
In a tweet, the Prime Ministers Office (PMO) said: “At 5:30 PM today, PM @narendramodi will address the Conference on Transformation of Aspirational Districts at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi. PM will interact with officials in-charge of transformation of over 100 districts.”
“The government has embarked upon a major policy initiative for the rapid transformation of districts lagging on specific development parameters,” an official statement said.
In August 2017, Modi addressed district collectors of 100 most backward districts across India, via video conference and asked them to work in a mission mode to improve socio-economic conditions in their districts.
Niti Ayaog has identified 115 such districts and nominated senior government officials for each of these districts in November 2017.
The officers will act as a bridge between the Centre and the district and will coordinate efforts between the Centre and states.
