Paying tributes to late Prime Minister Charan Singh on his birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday credited the leader for championing the rights of farmers and serving the nation with “utmost dedication”.
“Remembering Chaudhary Charan Singh ji on his birth anniversary. Chaudhary Sahab served the nation with utmost dedication,” he said in a tweet.

“He worked assiduously for the development of our villages and always championed the rights of our farmers,” Modi said.

Chaudhary Charan Singh was born in a Jat family in 1902 in village Noorpur of Hapur district in Uttar Pradesh. He entered politics as part of the Independence Movement.
He was the sixth Prime Minister of India and was in office from July 28, 1979 to January 14, 1980.
