Day 1 of Parliament’s Winter Session: PM flays Oppn for disrupting business, urges for fruitful debates
PM Modi added, “The world is looking at India with hope. Our behavior in Parliament should strengthen this respect at the global level.”
He said that Kashi for him is not mere “two words but an inspiration in terms of religion, spirituality and culture”.
Urging people of Varanasi to vote in large numbers in the upcoming elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made an emotional appeal to the people of his constituency, saying that Kashi for him is not mere “two words but an inspiration in terms of religion, spirituality and culture”.
“My people of Kashi have blessed me by giving me an opportunity to serve them,” Modi said in a video posted on his website.
Calling himself a “Kashi vaasi”, the PM underlined the emotional connect he has the city’s people.

“It is often said that whosoever come to Kashi even once becomes a part of the city. In the last five years I have experienced this every passing moment. In moulding me and giving a direction to my political and spiritual being, Kashi has a huge influence on me,” he said.
The PM said that he was proud of people’s participation in the development of Varanasi in the last five years and added that it serves as an example for the whole country.
He urged people to vote early and avoid the scorching summer sun and asked them to celebrate the exercise as a festival.
“Today, people of Kashi are contesting elections as Narendra Modi and are making others contest as well. I want to say that you too take part in this festival of democracy. Come to vote and encourage others to vote too,” he said.
“With the participation of the people of Kashi, we have done a lot of work for Kashi in the last five years, but a lot is still left. We have to do this together. It is our vow that we will not let the speed of this development stop,” he stated.
He also outlined various developmental initiatives undertaken in the city during his tenure.
At the same time, he talked about the presiding deity of Varanasi, Baba Vishwanath, saying that it was a matter of great satisfaction for him to be in the service of the city.
Polling in Varanasi, the constituency of PM Modi, will be held on 19 May – the last of the seven phase Lok Sabha elections. Unlike 2014 when he contested from two seats, PM Modi is contesting only from the Varanasi seat this time.
