Soon after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman concluded her maiden Union Budget, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the budget as “progressive and transformative”.
Modi said the budget will strengthen the poor and lead the middle class onto a progressive path.

Terming the Union Budget as one of hope, Modi said it will boost India’s development in the 21st century.

Sharing his thought, PM Modi said the budget for a New India has a roadmap to transform the agriculture sector of the country.
He further said the Union Budget will strengthen enterprises, simplify tax system, modernise infrastructure and enhance women’s participation in the country.
The Prime Minister said his government has taken all-round measures to empower the poor, the farmers, the Dalits and the deprived.
He concluded that in the next five years, the budget will make these sections a powerhouse for the country’s development. “Energy to fulfill $5 trillion economy dream, will come from this powerhouse.”
Presenting the Union Budget, Nirmala Nitharaman said India will grow to become a $3 trillion economy in the current year.
She further said that India has the capacity to reach $5 trillion in the next few years.
The minister proposed quick loans for MSMEs and pension for 3 crore retail traders and also proposed changes to kickstart domestic and foreign investment.
The government also proposed incentives for electric vehicles.
The Government, in the Union Budget, promised to invest widely in agricultural infrastructure.
To further encourage women entrepreneurship, the Government has decided to expand Women Self Help Group(SHG) Interest Subvention Programme to all districts in India.
This was the first full Union Budget of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government after returning to power for the second time.
