Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday congratulated the BJP and the NDA for a stellar performance in the Lok Sabha elections.
Lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah, he said the duo put together a winning alliance and a very professional campaign.
Refusing to give complete credit to the BJP for its victory, the National Conference leader said after the Balakot strike, the opposition had lost most of its steam.
He said there were many issues that the Opposition could have taken up against the Centre.
He added that instead of focusing on the Rafale case, the opposition could have presented rural distress, unemployment, and economic slowdown.
“So the exit polls were correct. All that’s left is to congratulate the BJP and NDA for a stellar performance,” he tweeted.
Minutes after the exit polls projected the return of a BJP-led NDA government, Omar Abdullah said it was not possible for all the surveys to go wrong.
Proving the exit polls right, the BJP government marched past the 300-mark and the NDA crossed 350, according to trends. The Congress is far behind with just 50 seats.
In 2014, the BJP had won 282 seats while the Congress had to contend with an all-time low of 44 seats as against the 206 it won in 2009.
