The Central government is likely to announce seven days of national mourning as a mark of respect to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who died at the age of 92 here on Thursday, according to sources.
President Droupadi Murmu expressed her condolences on the demise of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who passed away on Thursday evening. She said that Dr Singh made critical contributions to reforming the Indian economy and will be remembered for his service to the nation.
Manmohan Singh was a towering figure, and his remarkable journey ranged from humble beginnings to shaping the nation’s economic and political landscape.
Dr Singh was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) at around 8 PM after his health deteriorated.
"We can't say who is responsible for this... law and order is a State subject. We as the apex court can ensure they don't turn a blind eye. We must as a court also understand that some matters are entrusted to the political arm," said the CJI.
