Parvesh Verma is leading against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi by 238 votes after seven rounds of counting.
The saffron party which has extensively campaigned in the capital under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has taken a lead in 41 out of the 70 Assembly seats in Delhi.
Several AAP heavyweights, including party supremo Arvind Kejriwal Chief Minister Atishi, former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, and senior leader Saurabh Bharadwaj, are trailing in their respective constituencies.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, was also trailing against BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by a margin of 1149 votes at 9:54 am.
Earlier in the day, Kejriwal, who is also the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party, said Modi’s goal is not to end corruption but rather harass the opposition leaders.
He said the AAP government is working on a war footing with different campaigns already underway to keep a check on pollution during the winters
The leader of the Opposition in the assembly said "Apart from vehicular emissions, the Kejriwal Government has not implemented orders such as the ban on single-use plastics, road dust, and the cleanliness of the Yamuna River."
"But the good news basically ends there,” Indermit Gill, World Bank chief economist, said on Wednesday.
A day after AAP's Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan was raided by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the AAP chief launched alleged that such raids take place on the behest of the PM.
