Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday said that the BJP will form government in all three states of Meghalaya, Tripura and Nagaland as early trends have put the party in front in Tripura and Nagaland with a fractured mandate likely in Meghalaya.
“The trends in all three states point to a new political direction. It will have an effect on national politics as well. We are confident of forming government in all three states,” Rijiju said.
“The BJP is going to form government in Nagaland with absolute majority,” he added.
In Nagaland, the BJP combine was ahead on 13 seats of the 60 seats while the NPF is ahead on 10 while the Congress has so far failed to open its account.
In the 2013 polls, the NPF had won 38 seats, the Congress won 8 seats while the BJP bagged just one seat.
Perhaps, the biggest upset is likely to take place in Tripura, which has been the fortress of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) for the last five terms.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies were leading on 35 of the 59 seats while the CPI(M) was ahead on 24 seats.
In the 2013 Assembly Polls, the CPI(M) had won 49 seats, while the Congress bagged 10 seats and the BJP failed to win even a single seat in the state.
However, Left’s Brinda Karat dismissed the early trends saying she was “very confident” of forming government in Tripura.
