There is no need for former Finance Minister P Chidambaram to remain in the hospital as his health is fine, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the Delhi High Court on Friday, citing a report filed by the AIIMS medical board.
After taking the note of the medical report, Justice Suresh Kumar Kait directed the jail authorities to provide clean surroundings to the Chidambaram inside the jail. He also directed the jail authorities to allow him the access to home-cooked food as well as mineral water and other facilities as suggested by the doctors.
A board of doctors of AIIMS was constituted to examine the condition of ailing Chidambaram. The board in its report submitted that the hospitalisation of Chidambaram is not necessary as his vitals are functioning normal.
The court further disposed of the plea filed by Chidambaram seeking interim bail on health ground.
Chidambaram is under probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and ED over alleged irregularities in the FIPB clearance granted to INX Media for receiving overseas funds of Rs 305 crore in 2007 during his tenure as Union Finance Minister.
The ED suspects the Congress leader and his son Karti of owning several immovable properties and over 16 bank accounts in other countries, which they are trying to identify to trace the money trail.
P Chidambaram and his son Karti were named by Peter and Indrani Mukerjea, who owned INX Media at the time and are currently in jail in connection with the murder of Indrani Mukerjea’s daughter Sheena Bora.
