The Congress Steering Committee has decided not to hold an election for the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party’s apex decision-making body. Members of the CWC will now be nominated by the Congress president.

The decision was taken at the Congress steering committee meeting held at the convention hall of venue in Nava Raipur where the party’s 85th plenary session is underway.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said there will be no election for the CWC, it was unanimously decided that Congress President will nominate CWC members. “There was open discussion in the steering committee meeting.

All the members expressed their views. Former Congress prime ministers and former Congress presidents will be given representation in the CWC. We are sure that the party leaders, all PCC delegates will support it”, Ramesh said.

Jairam Ramesh said 45 members attended the meeting and there was no zoom meeting with the Gandhi family. Proposal for amendment of the constitution of the party will also be discussed in the plenary session, he added.
