Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the state assembly session on February 12 when his government is scheduled to prove its majority in the House.
“Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri Nitish Kumar, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” the PMO wrote on ‘X’ while sharing a picture of the meeting.
This was Kumar’s first visit to the national capital and meeting with the prime minister after he left the opposition-backed ‘Mahagathbandhan’ alliance and returned to the NDA fold. He formed a new government with the BJP on January 28.
It was not immediately known what transpired between the two leaders. However, sources said they considered various proposals and schemes for the welfare of the people of Bihar.
The Bihar chief minister later met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president J P Nadda here apart from calling on BJP stalwart L K Advani, who was recently named for ‘Bharat Ratna’, the nation’s highest civilian award.
“I am not going anywhere… I will remain with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),” he told reporters.
The BJP and the Kumar-headed Janata Dal (United) will jointly contest the Lok Sabha elections as part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Bihar deputy chief ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, both from the BJP, had met Modi on Monday.
According to sources, issues pertaining to Rajya Sabha polls in the state also figured during Kumar’s meetings with the BJP leaders. Six Rajya Sabha seats in Bihar are falling vacant, for which elections are scheduled to be held on February 27.
