NHRC shoots off notice to TN govt over death of 2 labourers
The Commission observed that the contents of the media report, if true, indicate gross negligence on the part of the electricity department resulting in the death of two labourers.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought for an Action Taken Report (ATR) within four weeks from the Superintendent of Police of Keonjhar district on the plight of a minor girl student, who became an unwed mother.
The minor girl, a student of a government-run residential school for SC and ST children in Sadar police station area in Keonjhar, had given birth to a baby at the District Headquarters Hospital recently.

The petition sought for an independent and impartial probe into the incident. The school authorities should be brought under the ambit of investigation.
It also sought for the medical assistance to mother and newborn besides compensation, rehabilitation and psycho-social counseling.
“The Commission shall be constrained to invoke coercive process u/s 13 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 calling for a personal appearance of the authority concerned for submission of the report, in case the report is not received within the stipulated time,” the NHRC stated in the order.
