NHRC shoots off notice to TN govt over death of 2 labourers
The Commission observed that the contents of the media report, if true, indicate gross negligence on the part of the electricity department resulting in the death of two labourers.
The Commission, while taking suo moto cognizance of the media report on the incident, observed that the contents, if true, amounted to a violation of human rights of the victim.
National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought a report from the Uttar Pradesh government on a reported death of a 37-year-old man admitted to a drug rehabilitation centre in Sector 112, Noida in Gautham Budh Nagar district.
The Commission, while taking suo moto cognizance of the media report on the incident on Thursday, observed that the contents, if true, amounted to a violation of human rights of the victim.

Accordingly, it has issued notices to the UP Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police calling for a detailed report including the present status of the investigation of the case and compensation of relief, if any, provided to the next of kin of the deceased by the government authorities.

According to reports, the victim was admitted to the rehabilitation centre on March 6, 2023. However, on March 9, his family received a phone call from the centre stating that the victim had fainted due to an epileptic fit, and later, the dead body was sent home in an ambulance.
