Union Minister Prahlad Joshi and J&K BJP incharge Tarun Chugh have been appointed observers for the election of party’s legislature party leader in Jammu and Kashmir. The appointment has been made by the parliamentary board of the party.
The saffron party won highest-ever 29 seats in the recent assembly elections and with that strength, its legislature party leader would enjoy the position of leader of the opposition.The party MLAs Devender Singh Rana and Sunil Sharma are being considered the frontrunners for the post. Rana, who won with the highest margin of votes in J&K, is considered a leader having vast political experience. He was given the responsibility of campaigning for party candidates in Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh during the assembly elections. BJP has turned out as the second largest party with 29 seats in J&K, National Conference (NC) is the largest party with a strength of 42, Congress 6, PDP 3, CPI(M), Peoples Conference and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) one each and independents 7. The NC-Congress and CPI(M) had sealed a pre-poll alliance.

Meanwhile, the newly elected MLAs were felicitated on Monday at the BJP headquarters here. Welcoming them, J&K BJP chief Ravinder Raina, who himself lost the Nowshera seat in the Rajouri district, said it was a special moment for the party to welcome its elected candidates as they have done the party proud. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party president JP Nadda and Home Minister Amit Shah for victory of such a large number of party candidates and said these elected MLAs will leave no stone unturned to serve the nation, region, society and the people.
