Nehru compromised with ‘communal fascists’: KPCC chief

“During Nehru’s period, there was no Opposition in Parliament. The opposition parties did not have enough numbers. But by making A K Gopalan of the CPI, as the Opposition leader, Nehru demonstrated democratic sense,” Sudhakaran further said.

Nehru compromised with ‘communal fascists’: KPCC chief

KPCC president K Sudhakaran

Days after claiming that he ‘protected RSS shakhas from CPI-M attacks’, Congress Kerala chief K Sudhakaran on  Monday said Jawaharlal Nehru was willing to compromise with even communal fascism as he made Shyama Prasad Mukherjee a minister in Independent India’s first cabinet.

Addressing at a  function organised by the Kannur District Congress Committee (DCC), as part of Children’s Day, Sudhakaran said, “Nehru is the symbol of the highest level of democratic consciousness that made B R Ambedkar the law minister. He was magnanimous enough to make RSS leader Shyama Prasad Mookerjee a minister in his own cabinet… that large-heartedness to even compromise with communal fascism.” This was proof of his high sense of democracy, Sudhakaran  added.

Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was the minister of commerce and industry in the Nehru government from 1947 to 1950. He later quit the cabinet and founded Bharatiya Jana Sangh, which later became Bharathiya Janata Party(BJP)

Sudhakaran’s latest remark came at a time  when the party-led  United Democratic Front (UDF) was trying to wriggle out of the embarrassment created by his statement on RSS shakhas last week.
Last week, Sudhakaran has stated  that he had sent his men to “give protection to RSS shakhas at Edakkad, Thottada, Kizhunna in Kannur  from CPI-M attacks  when he was part of the Congress (Organisation) and the right-wing outfit also has all right to function here.

Congress ally Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has come out against Sudhakaran’s statement that he has given  protection to RSS shakhas.
