A sailor with the Indian Navy has been discharged after he underwent a gender reassignment surgery and transformed into a woman, reports said on Tuesday.
Manish Giri went under the knife in Mumbai last year as he was feeling like a “woman trapped in a man’s body”. After getting a new identity, he changed his name to “Sabi” and started dressing up like a woman.

However, when the sailor returned to INS Eksila base in Visakhapatnam, his seniors noticed the change and as per reports admitted him in a psychiatric ward for six months.
As per the Indian Navy, Giri was recruited under the “Indian male citizen” clause seven years ago and his sex change operation, technically annul his appointment.
As per rules, transgenders or transsexual people are not allowed to join the armed forces at present and the Navy recruits only men as sailors, soldiers, and airmen in entry-level or lower ranks.
Giri was handed the discharge letter on Friday by the Navy. However, he has now decided to approach the court to seek justice.
