President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday led the nation in saluting great revolutionary and freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on his birth anniversary, which is commemorated as ‘Parakram Diwas’.

Murmu paid floral tributes to Netaji at Rashtrapati Bhavan here, while Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Union ministers Arjun Meghwal and Jitendra Singh, among others, paid tributes to the braveheart at Samvidhan Sadan.

Taking to social media platform ‘X’, the president said Netaji demonstrated extraordinary commitment to the cause of India’s freedom.

“His unparalleled courage and charisma inspired Indians to fight fearlessly against colonial rule. His powerful personality had a profound impact on our freedom struggle. The nation will always remember Netaji with utmost gratitude,” he said.

Remembering the fearless leader, the vice president said, “His indomitable spirit and unwavering commitment to India’s independence continue to inspire us all.

“Netaji’s clarion call for freedom, encapsulated in the powerful words, ‘Give me blood and I shall give you freedom,’ reverberates through history as a rallying cry for liberty. May this day serve as a reminder to keep Bharat first, and to work tirelessly towards a united, prosperous, and free India,” he said.

Extending his greetings to the people on Parakram Diwas, the prime minister honoured the life and courage of Netaji.

“Greetings to the people of India on Parakram Diwas. Today on his Jayanti, we honour the life and courage of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. His unwavering dedication to our nation’s freedom continues to inspire,” he posted on ‘X’.

Paying tributes to the valiant leader, Birla said Bose was a strong voice against the British rule which awakened a sense of self-respect among the youth and inspired them to dedicate everything for the motherland.

Union ministers Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Nitin Gadkari, Sarabanda Sonwal and Kiren Rijiju were among those who remembered Bose on this day.

The epitome of valour, courage and determination, Netaji gave unbridled strength to India’s freedom movement and continues to inspire generations. He was a prominent leader in the Indian independence movement against the British rule. He formed the Indian National Army (INA) and played a crucial role in challenging colonialism.

The government has instituted an annual award known as Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar to recognize and honour the invaluable contribution and selfless service rendered by individuals and organizations in India in the field of disaster management.

The award, announced every year on the birth anniversary of Netaji, carries a cash prize of Rs 51 lakh and a certificate in case of an institution, and Rs 5 lakh and a certificate in case of an individual.
