The complicated operation to retrieve the bodies of eight mountaineers who lost their lives in an avalanche in Nanda Devi area in Pithoragarh in May this year is all set to conclude on Wednesday. The Indo Tibetan Border Police conducted the challenging operation.
According to the district information office (Pithoragarh), “Four bodies reached Munsiyari on Wednesday morning from where they will be airlifted to Pithoragarh. The process of moving three more bodies from Nanda Devi base camp two to Munsyari was on.”
The bodies of seven mountaineers are expected to reach Pithoragarh by Wednesday afternoon. From Pithoragarh, the bodies will be taken to Haldwani for postmortem.
Disclosing information about the operation, the official twitter handle of ITBP stated, “In one of the toughest operations of the world, the ITBP team of mountaineers successfully carried the 7 bodies of mountaineers from 18,900 ft to Base Camp 2 at 17,000 feet. They are now trying to take bodies to Base camp 1 at 15,250 feet today itself.”
